The Reason Why You Overeat Isn't Always What You Think
Last week, I coached a client about her trip home to visit Mom for the Thanksgiving holiday.
She's been consistently losing weight following the SDF process and this is her first trip home since becoming a member.
She's concerned that she didn't have a plan.
She wasn't sure what was going to be available to eat.
“Mom has different eating habits than I do.”
“She may cook things I don't want to eat.”
I could see the look of concern on her face.
She was worried and uncertain.
As I continued to coach her, I was able to dig a little bit deeper.
Not having a plan for Thanksgiving week wasn't the real concern.
LESSON: Your worry isn't always caused by what you think. When you don't understand the source of your worry, you try and solve for the wrong problem.
She thought she just needed a solid eating plan for the week, but what she needed had nothing to do with food.
As we uncovered the source of her worry and uncertainty, I could see her face start to relax.
As she was taking vigorous notes on what I shared with her, I watched her nodding her head in agreement.
I have a feeling, she is going to have an exceptional visit home and Thanksgiving celebration with her family.
One that she never even knew was possible.
This is the power of coaching.
Had she not brought this topic up for coaching this week, she would have gone home and fallen into the old eating habits that she's used to.
She thought she just needed an eating plan.
What we uncovered during the coaching was so much more.
In case you didn't know, I am trained to help you find the root cause of your eating patterns (this is called causal coaching).
What I will not do is tell you what to eat, cross my fingers, and hope you stick with the plan.
No, no, no.
What I will do is use coaching to help you change your unhealthy eating patterns…forever.
